HALF STEPS MAJCOR SCALES - = U w oM & l A half step 1s the shortest distance between two tones. Two half steps equal one whole step. EXANUPLE:The near=- est note to F, would be F# upwards or E downwards. There= fore, the distance from F to either of these notes is one half step. The major scale ie made up of seven notes. In our work,we shall call these tones the following: Root,Second,Third, Fourth,Fifth,Sixth, and Seventh. The root is doubled an octave hlgher tc give a feeling of completion when play=- ing the scale. The number of half steps betweén each tone of the scale never varies with any of the major scales;so we can use a gulde made up of half steps as a basis for the construction of the major scale. ?u gu:&l&. fau:u’flg 7 & Using a * to indicate half steps, it can be readily seen from a glance at the above chart that there are two places in the major scale wnere there is a skip of a half step be= tween mEmx tones.Between the other tones there is a skip of on e whole stepe.Regardless of what tone we use for -our root we can bulld our major scale by the other gulde.EXANMPLE: Using F as a root, the next note would be G, since G is two half steps away from F.The note following G would be A, because A is two half steps away from G, etc.
