Many times, during the wrlting of an arrangement,
the trombone part will go too high for the prac-

tical range of the instrument.

In other instances, there are desired effects to
be obtained by the use of line (progression by half

or whole steps.

Inorderto cope with these problems in the best poss-
ible manner,we shall learn 2 way to voice our chords

which we will call open harmony.

Open harmony is formed by taking the note of the
chord under the melody tone and dropping it one

octave.
