Biographical note

Lyricist Don George (1909-1987) is perhaps best known for his collaboration with Duke Ellington, particularly the standard “I’m Beginning to See the Light” (1944). Based on their personal friendship, George authored the biography Sweet Man: The Real Duke Ellington (1981).

This collection is primarily comprised of musical manuscripts, photographs, a draft of Sweet Man: The Real Duke Ellington, and other personal effects belonging to lyricist Don George.
